How to use Self-Illumination material

Let's find out what is the Self-Illumination material and how to use it in DOMUS3D® 2017

step_1 STEP 1.
If you want that an item (or a part of it) will emit its own light we can use a specific material available in your Application database. It is the “Autoilluminante” material (Self-Illumination). If you assign this material to an object's layer, it will make its own light thanks to the parameter Additional Color, as you can see in the following image. You can access the material mask double clicking the material in the components window; in there, you can change the power of the light changing the Add. Color Multiplier value. As you can see, thise parameters are available in the Advanced paramteres section of the material.
step_2 STEP 2.
Let's see how to apply the Self-Illumination material to an object. Search and find "Autoilluminante” material in the “Materials” section of the Components window (you can change its name inside the database in order to call it the way you prefer). Select the preview image with the left mouse button, drag and drop it in the Navigation window. Be careful to drop it exactly over the glass of the light , as you can see in the next image.
step_5 STEP 3.
It could happen that the Self-Illuminating material does not give the effect we are looking for, for example when the room is lit by sunlight. To increase (or decrease) the brightness produced by the material, you only have to adjust the Add Color Multiplier parameter.
step_4 STEP 4.
In the images here aside you can compare a rendered image without the Self-Illumination parameter, and another one with such effect applied to the lamp
step_5 STEP 5.
Light cones are not generated by self-illuminating material but they are produced by the spotlights (artificial lights) positioned alongside the lamps.
If you have DomuS3D® 2017 you can download this project. In this way you can see how the material has been applied to the lamps. The proejct has been created using mental-ray rendering engine.
